Lord Lieutenant of the Western Isles, Iain Macaulay, said: “HM The Queen has been a symbol of stability for the past 70 years as monarch, providing an outstanding example of service, dedication and Christian faith. She had a very special place in the hearts of the people of these islands. Saturday’s service will give us all an opportunity to reflect on her life. She also visited the Western Isles on many other occasions, with her family on cruises aboard the royal yacht Britannia. The Queen visited the Western Isles on three official visits, in 1956, in 1979 to open the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar building and in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee. Our service on Saturday morning is an opportunity for people of all denominations and none, to gather for a short time to reflect with gratitude on her life and our thankfulness for her."Ĭomhairle nan Eilean Siar Convener, Kenny Macleod, said: “Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Royal Family at this sad time. Her life revolved around bringing people together from all walks of life and was also one of servant leadership. Our new King Charles III, could have no better mentor than his Mother the Queen for the role he is now called to fulfil. She has given a life time of unstinting service. Her unwavering commitment to her faith strengthened and guided her and she recognised her need of God’s help to fulfil her Calling. She promised at her Coronation to serve for as long as she lived, and she certainly did that. Rev, William Heenan, St Columba's Church, said: “The sudden death of our Queen has been a shock and also a time of great sadness across the Western Isles, the Nation, the Commonwealth and beyond. Police Scotland will have officers on hand to assist with traffic as required.įor those unable to attend in person, the service will also be broadcast live on the St Columba’s Church’s YouTube and Facebook pages. The public are invited to attend this service and those wishing to do so are encouraged to use the Comhairle car parks as well as the church car park.
